Time → seconds — quick FAQ

Which inputs are accepted?

Numbers in the three boxes. Seconds can include decimals (comma or dot). Any empty box is treated as zero.

Can minutes or seconds exceed 59?

Yes. We normalize automatically when computing the total. For example, 0 hours, 90 minutes, and 75 seconds equals 1:31:15.

What shows in the result?

Only the clean equality line so it’s easy to copy and paste elsewhere.

How we turn hours, minutes, and seconds into one number

The core formula (always the same)

The calculator multiplies hours by 3,600, minutes by 60, and then adds the seconds you type. In short: total seconds = (hours × 3600) + (minutes × 60) + seconds. Because this is pure unit math, time zones and daylight saving never affect the result.

Fast, forgiving input

Type numbers in any of the three boxes. Leave unused boxes blank—those count as zero. Seconds may include decimals using a comma or a dot (e.g., 03.5). If you paste values beyond 59 for minutes or seconds, that’s fine; we compute the correct total automatically. Hours aren’t capped at 24 because you’re entering a duration, not a wall-clock time.

Clear, copy-ready output

The result line shows a normalized H:MM:SS on the left and the total seconds on the right, joined by an equals sign. There’s no extra wording in the box, so you can copy it directly into an email, ticket, script comment, or spreadsheet cell.

Why seconds are useful
  • APIs & scripts: many parameters expect seconds (timeouts, retries, delays).
  • Media & logs: seconds map cleanly to frame rates and sample rates.
  • Fair comparisons: converting everything to one unit makes math and thresholds simple.
Examples you can check
  • 0 h, 2 m, 30 s → 150 seconds.
  • 1 h, 75 m, 0 s → 6,300 seconds (we accept the overflow).
  • 0 h, 0 m, 01.25 s → 1.25 seconds (comma decimal works too).
Need a different format?

To turn a large second count into a clock string, use Seconds → HH:MM:SS. If your workflow wants totals in other units, try Time → Minutes or Time → Hours. For any other pair—from weeks to microseconds—open the all-in-one Time Unit Conversions.

From day counts to smaller units

If you’re starting with whole days, jump straight to Days → Minutes or Days → Seconds. Planning around a specific calendar date? See what date is 365 days from today and related date tools.

Tips for clean data
  • Stick to digits (and one decimal point/comma in the seconds box). We ignore spaces.
  • Use the result line for copy/paste; it’s already formatted with your locale’s separators.
  • For repeat conversions (e.g., a standard 1:30:00 slot), note the seconds beside the task in your template.
Privacy and limits

All math runs locally in your browser; nothing leaves your device. There’s no login, network call, or hidden storage. The tool doesn’t understand calendar business rules—if you need real dates or weekdays-only counts, switch to our date calculators after you’ve converted your duration.
